Consumables Engineering Technician

Department: Planar Sensors
Location: Waltham, MA

Nova Biomedical is hiring a Consumables Engineering Technician on the Split Shift preferred (10:00 AM - 6:30 PM but can be flexible) in our Waltham, MA facility. The Technician will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and upgrading various types of gantry systems utilized to dispense chemistries in production of planar biosensors as well as other equipment used in the manufacture of these devices. The main objective of this role is to minimize downtime by utilizing a preventative maintenance program for all equipment as well as troubleshooting issues as they arise during the shift. Other responsibilities include:

  • Troubleshooting dispensing gantry systems which utilize camera positioning systems.
  • Reading and understanding electrical schematics of various electro/mechanical systems.
  • Rigorously maintaining dispensing gantry systems on a daily/weekly basis.
  • Maintaining other equipment integral in the manufacture of planar sensors which include laser and plasma etching units, dispensing equipment, UV curing stations, microscopes, vacuum ovens, pneumatic presses, laminators, and drying ovens.
  • Reviewing various tools and fixtures for wear and placing requests for new tooling as needed into the machine shop.
  • Contacting equipment manufacturers when technical or on-site assistance is required and working through the equipment issues as necessary.
  • Working with engineering to implement new tooling/fixtures, programs or processes as needed. This includes updating any documentation, maintenance, and training requirements.
  • Conducting daily and weekly review of equipment issues to determine how best to continuously improve upon maintenance needs.
  • Monitoring output of equipment to determine if more proactive measures need to be implemented to provide equipment reliability.
  • Creating and maintaining metrics on equipment down time to help drive improvement.
  • Creating specific maintenance schedules and working with manufacturing to schedule the maintenance to assure they are done on a timely basis without impact to production schedules.
  • Creating and maintaining a spare component program to further minimize down-time.

Qualifications:

  • Solid electro-mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Computer proficiency to allow understanding of various programs used in dispensing and etching of various sensor components.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings to aid in troubleshooting.
    • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
    • Must be able to life 15 pounds occasionally.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail and prioritize workload.
  • Efficient response to issues as they arise to minimize delays in manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to create and update manufacturing documentation.

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum High School degree, vocational High School or A.S. in mechanical engineering preferred.
  • Must have 5 plus years of working in a manufacturing environment troubleshooting/maintaining equipment.
