Group Leader, Chemical Filling - Second Shift

Department: Fluids Production
Location: Waltham, MA

Nova Biomedical is hiring a Group Leader on our Chemical Filling team in our Waltham, MA facility on the Second Shift (This includes a 10% Shift Differential). The Group Leader will oversee daily activity with in the filling area to assure all quality and production goals are met. The Group Leader will perform filling, sealing, and labeling of various reagents by means of written and/or verbal instructions as needed, record all pertinent information as required in various assembly procedures and logs, as needed, and represent filling in all aspects for all daily Reagent activities. Other responsibilities include:

  • Scheduling daily filling operations and priorities.
  • Performing SAP transactions as needed for all work orders.
  • Ordering production supplies and materials for filling area.
  • Meeting with vendors and contractors as required.
  • Setting up per procedure and equipment specification for filling operation, as needed.
  • Operating and monitoring filling equipment during filling - load/unload product, assure product is properly filled, sealed, labeled, and quarantined as required.
  • Producing documentation - accurate and complete record of filling operation, as needed.
  • Performing maintenance of filling area and equipment including daily cleaning, cleaning between batches, periodic maintenance/calibration work orders, as needed.
  • Overseeing management of waste streams that are generated in the process of filling.
  • Ensuring all post-filling activities/operations are performed including metrics, logs, and SAP transactions.
  • Training and offering guidance of all personnel on all aspects of filling operations.

Qualifications:

  • Read and write English and follow written/verbal instructions.
  • Perform basic math and counting.
  • Solid mechanical aptitude/troubleshooting skills with ability to utilize hand tools and gauges to operate bottle/pouch fillers, cappers, sealers, inkjets, labelers, and other related equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Quality System Regulations (QSR).
  • Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards.
  • Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
  • Working knowledge of hazardous waste management.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Must be able to perform tasks that may involve for extended periods of time standings, sitting, pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching, twisting, turning, climbing steps and carrying up to 40 pounds several times/hours a day.
    • Requires repetitive use of arms/wrist/hands while setting up/working with equipment/computer throughout the day.
    • Will require use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and may include, but not limited to, safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, bouffant, gloves, hearing protection, face shield, nuisance mask, cartridge type respirator.
    • Must have good hand/eye coordination and visual acuity.
    • Must be able to distinguish colors.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Team Leader, Chemical Filling skills.
  • Good organizational skills such as 5S.
  • Intermediate knowledge of computers and MS Office.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Good interpersonal skills.

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 4+ years of experience in an automated pouch or bottle filling operation is required.
  • 4+ years of experience in a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) environment is required.
  • 2+ years of experience in a leadership role in a comparable environment is required.
  • Understanding of compounding operation is required.
  • Understanding of tonometry process is required.
  • Massachusetts Industrial Wastewater License Grade 2 and above desired.
