Supervisor, Planar Sensors - Second Shift

Location: Waltham, MA

Nova Biomedical is hiring a Supervisor to support our Planar Sensor Manufacturing Team on the Second Shift (3:00 P.M - 11:30 P.M. - This includes a 10% Shift Differential) in our Waltham, MA facility. Nova has clearly identified the Planar Sensor manufacturing as the highest priority for both quality and continued weekly output to support Nova's continued growth in the blood gas and biotechnology sectors of the market. This position is to ensure the critical chemistry dispense/fabrication of amperometric and potentiometric sensors is achieved to support this objective. This individual must be highly motivated with the ability to interact not only with the team responsible for producing the product, but with other available resources for the continued expected growth of these product lines. The position will be responsible for all day-to-day activities over second shift.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for training personnel on the various steps and processes required including all equipment that is required to produce planar sensors. This includes the quality inspection during each step of the process to ensure the utmost quality of the sensors prior to moving to assembly, test and packaging.
  • Ability to create a weekly production schedule that will satisfy the customer driven demand for the various SKU's and clearly articulate expectations to all operators for timely execution. This schedule must efficiently maximize the labor as well as equipment resources to provide the required deliverables. Additionally, the individual has to be flexible in adjusting the schedule as necessary with minimal impact based on any unforeseen issues such as: changes in labor availability, process issues, etc.)
  • Must support process improvement projects/new product development from R&D and Consumable Engineering. This includes overseeing the production trials and providing timely feedback to the appropriate personnel.
  • Responsible to interface with R&D, management, and engineering to any issues that may impact production capacity such as but not limited to: equipment, materials, environment, etc.
  • Review procedures from Consumable Engineering to assure they are accurate and able to be understood and adhered to by operators.
  • Work with management and provide input to capacity plan to such as labor, equipment, tooling, etc. for continued growth demand.
  • Continued development of skills for each operator to ensure cross-functional capability to provide back-up for each function in order to mitigate any unforeseen schedule changes and to cover for any absences, vacation, LOA, etc.
  • Responsible for all supervisor functions which includes: input to annual pay plan, providing feedback, candidate selection, discipline needs, performance appraisals, vacation requests, training needs, weekly report, etc.
  • Responsible to follow-up on any issues that arise in manufacturing to ensure the issue is properly mitigated and mistake proofed to prevent recurrence.
  • Must gain a solid understanding of the entire dispensing/fabrication process as well as equipment operation/troubleshooting to be to keep production on schedule.
  • Responsible to make sure there is a smooth flow of materials, cleanliness of the operation, organization, as well as identification of materials, WIP, fixtures and tooling to prevent potential non-compliance or failures.
  • Responsible to assure all equipment is properly maintained/calibrated as well as assuring adequate spare supplies are on hand to prevent down-time.
  • Occasionally, conduct self-audits of the operation to ensure zero gaps in procedural, quality or compliance documentation.
  • Reviewing and executing various SAP transactions for material usage, scrap, cycle counts and posting.
  • With the manager, select and develop a Group Leader that is fully trained to back-up the supervisor as well as a Team Leader who can back-up the Group Leader.
  • Cross train with other supervisors to provide back-up for Planar Sensors as well as other production areas within Sensor Manufacturing.
  • Create metrics to measure performance to schedule in order to help drive continuous improvement of the operation to meet future demand in areas such as personnel, equipment, layout, process, etc.

Qualifications/Skills and Competencies:

  • Person must have at least 5 years of experience manufacturing blood gas sensors.
  • Effective verbal and written communication to achieve production and training goals.
  • Forward looking to assure future expected growth needs are met.
  • Ability to effectively train personnel and develop skill set.

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of H.S. with 7 plus years of manufacturing experience in medical devices.
  • Minimum of 7 years manufacturing experience in Planar Sensors for medical devices.
