Manufacturing (Mechanical) Engineer III

Job Summary:

Nova Biomedical is seeking a Manufacturing Mechanical Engineer III to provide technical floor support to reagent, sensor, and tubing manufacturing operations at the Waltham, MA facility. This role is responsible for supporting on-time shipment of high-quality products at an acceptable cost by resolving manufacturing issues, driving process and product improvements, transferring new products and processes into manufacturing, and supporting investigations related to in-process or field-returned product.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day technical floor support to consumable manufacturing operations by investigating and resolving issues that arise during product manufacturing and processing.
  • Test consumables, including sensors, tubing, calibrators, and controls, for functionality on analyzers and/or production test platforms.
  • Measure and inspect components for form, fit, and function, and disposition nonconforming product as needed.
  • Write manufacturing variances and route documentation for required approvals and signatures.
  • Update and create manufacturing documentation, including assembly procedures, test procedures, operating instructions, operating procedures, drawings, and artwork, in compliance with Quality System Regulations and ISO standards.
  • Write and/or execute Installation Qualifications (IQ), Operational Qualifications (OQ), Performance Qualifications (PQ), validations, Design of Experiments (DOE), Process Failure Mode Effects Analyses (PFMEA), Process Validation Master Plans, and continuous improvement studies or evaluations.
  • Research, specify, and procure new equipment for existing or new processes and assemblies.
  • Design and construct tooling and fixtures for manufacturing processes, or modify existing production equipment as needed.
  • Coordinate the transfer of new products into manufacturing by collaborating with R&D and other manufacturing engineers to develop scalable production methods and processes.
  • Train assemblers and operators on new processes, assemblies, and production methods.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce product cost and cycle times, including evaluating and implementing lean manufacturing techniques.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Research and Development, QA/QC, Marketing, Accounting, Purchasing, Planning, and Distribution teams.

Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline required.
  • 4+ years of relevant manufacturing engineering experience desired.
  • Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks, Microsoft Office, Minitab, SAP, and MasterControl.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing methods and practices.
  • Knowledge of FDA Quality System Regulations and ISO regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong time management and risk management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to support process improvement, validation, documentation, equipment, and product transfer activities in a regulated manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks.

  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions (e.g., noise, temperature, equipment).
  • Ability to operate tools, machinery, or technical equipment.
  • Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) required.

Work Location: On-site in Waltham, MA.

Targeted Salary Range: $110,000 - $125,000/year.
