About the role

Nova Biomedical is seeking a dynamic and innovative Head of Data & AI to lead our data management, data quality, data engineering and artificial intelligence efforts. This senior leadership role will be responsible for delivering a forward-thinking enterprise AI strategy aligned with our corporate goals, and for establishing both internal AI capabilities and leveraging the emerging external, product, customer, and commercial AI landscape.

What you’ll do

  • Leadership and Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive data and AI strategy that aligns with Nova Biomedical’s corporate vision and business objectives, acting as a thought leader in AI adoption.
  • Data Management: Oversee the management of data assets, ensuring integrity, availability, and security of data across the organization.
  • Data Quality: Establish and maintain high standards of data quality, implementing robust data governance frameworks and processes.
  • Data Engineering: Lead the design, development, and optimization of scalable data pipelines and architectures to support advanced analytics and AI initiatives supporting products, customers, and enterprise technology.
  • AI Innovation: Drive the development and deployment of AI solutions to enhance business operations, optimize performance, and provide actionable insights. Support organizational agility for emerging AI technologies. Responsible for Nova Biomedical’s AI center of excellence and AI governance.
  • Internal AI Capabilities: Build and lead a team of data scientists, engineers, and AI specialists to develop in-house AI tools and applications.
  • AI Governance & Compliance: Ensure ethical AI practices, mitigating bias and ensuring transparency in AI models. Develop policies and training for AI model validation, monitoring, and risk management.
  • Clinical: Partner with clinical teams to leverage RWD and RWE to support product development, hybrid clinical trial designs (synthetic control arms, propensity score, causal inference), and study simulations. Support acquisition of clinical outcome data at scale (eCOA, external integrations), and standard data models under CDISC standards.
  • External AI Opportunities: Identify and capitalize on emerging AI technologies and partnerships in the commercial AI landscape to enhance Nova Biomedical’s competitive edge. Participate in existing partnerships with Cloud vendors as well as identifying and partnering in future AI engagements.
  • Collaboration and Engagement: Collaborate with senior business leaders across the organization to understand their goals, provide strategic data and AI capabilities, and drive data-driven decision-making.
  • Team Leadership: Inspire, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.

What we are looking for in you

  • Education: Master’s or PhD in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computational Neuroscience, Machine Learning, Mathematical Statistics, or a related field
  • 15+ years of experience in data & AI
  • Experience: Extensive experience in data management, data quality, data engineering, and AI, with a proven track record of driving successful AI initiatives in the medical device industry
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and develop cross-functional teams, with strong strategic thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of data architectures, data governance, big data, machine learning, MLOps, and AI technologies.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence senior business leaders.
  • Innovation: A visionary mindset with the ability to identify and leverage emerging AI technologies to achieve business goals.
  • Innovative Problem-Solving: Proactive approach to identifying root cause issues and using technology to drive measurable value.
  • Team Leadership: Strong emphasis on collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and continuous learning within the team.
  • Speed & Adaptability: Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing technology landscape and respond to emerging opportunities effectively.

  • Primarily performs work in an office or remote environment, requiring extended periods of sitting, computer use, and participation in virtual and in-person meetings.

Work Location: Onsite in out Waltham, MA office

Targeted Salary Range: $270,000 - $300,000/year.

Actual compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and may vary based on individual factors such as location, skills, and education.
