Job Summary:

The Packaging Engineer is responsible for the design, development, validation, and continuous improvement of packaging solutions across Nova Biomedical's manufacturing facilities. This role leads and supports a broad range of projects including new product launches, cost reduction initiatives, sustainability efforts, packaging optimization, quality improvements, and supply chain efficiency programs. Working cross-functionally with operations, manufacturing engineering, quality, procurement, and suppliers, the Packaging Engineer ensures packaging systems meet performance, regulatory, safety, and business requirements. The ideal candidate is a problem solver capable of managing multiple priorities, collaborating with diverse stakeholders, and driving successful project execution in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities:

    • Lead packaging design, qualification, and validation activities including ship testing, drop testing, vibration testing, and cold chain validation.
    • Drive packaging standardization initiatives across product portfolios to improve consistency, quality, and operational efficiency, including packaging designs, engineering drawings, labeling, and specifications.
    • Identify and implement packaging cost reduction opportunities through design optimization, material selection, process improvements, and standardization efforts while maintaining product protection and regulatory compliance.
    • Investigate and assess shipping damage incidents, performing root cause analysis and recommending corrective and preventive actions to improve packaging performance and product integrity.
    • Collaborate with Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE) to resolve supplier-related quality and packaging issues, including participation in supplier assessments, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives as required.
    • Serve as an internal subject matter expert (SME) for sustainable packaging solutions, including emerging trends and technologies related to reusable, recyclable, biodegradable, and environmentally responsible packaging materials and systems.
    • Support organizational compliance with the European Union Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (EU Regulation 2025/40) by contributing to packaging strategy, design requirements, documentation, and implementation activities.

Experience Requirements:

  • 3+ years of relevant packaging experience.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Safely lift, move, and position materials, equipment, and packaging components weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Support packaging development and testing activities by handling and transporting pallets, packaging materials, and finished products within manufacturing and warehouse operations.
  • Perform frequent standing, walking, and movement between production and warehouse areas to evaluate packaging performance and manufacturing processes.
  • Execute thorough visual assessments and quality inspections of packaging materials, prototypes, and finished products to verify compliance with design specifications and testing requirements.
  • Travel to manufacturing facilities, suppliers, and external test laboratories to support packaging development, qualification testing, root cause investigations, and continuous improvement projects.
